We are looking for an experienced Stage Manager (Book Cover) to join the creative team for The Swamp Dwellers.This is a hands-on role within a collaborative process, supporting the making and delivery of a new production rooted in African performance traditions and contemporary staging.
About the Production
This production reimagines The Swamp Dwellers through a contemporary lens, engaging with themes of environment, displacement, and survival. The work draws on African performance aesthetics, including music, rhythm, and embodied storytelling.

About the Role
We are looking for someone who is organised, calm under pressure, and able to work flexibly within a creative process. You will need strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a willingness to take initiative.
What You Will Be Doing
- Supporting the running of rehearsals and performances, including covering tracks and responding to the day-to-day needs of the production.
- Preparing and maintaining rehearsal and stage spaces, including props, set, costume, and technical elements.
- Carrying out SM plots as required, including onstage cues where needed.
- Learning and maintaining the show ‘book’, and calling the show when required.
- Supporting and guiding the crew where appropriate.
- Noticing when things need fixing or replacing and communicating this clearly.
- Attending maintenance calls when needed.
- Managing and maintaining props, including sourcing and carrying out quick repairs where necessary.
- Keeping all working areas and equipment organised, safe, and ready for use.
