Production Manager
For the production of:
The Gods are not to blame
Utopia Theatre is one of the UK’s leading African theatre companies, creating bold, thought-provoking work that places African and African diaspora stories at the heart of contemporary cultural conversations. Utopia Theatre is seeking an experienced Production Manager for the Research and Development (R&D) phase of our latest production, The Gods Are Not To Blame, a highly regarded 1968 play by Nigerian writer Ola Rotimi. This R&D is a significant stage in developing a major new production intended for national touring in 2027/2028. The play takes the bones of Greek tragedy and re-roots them in Yoruba soil. Warned by the oracle that he is fated to kill his father and marry his mother, King Odewale spends his life fleeing that destiny, only to find himself facing it. This R&D will culminate in a performance of extracts from the production at Steamworks in Sheffield on 21 November 2026, with a cast of professional actors in addition to community cast, presented to industry professionals and local audiences. The Production Manager will be responsible for overseeing the R&D production process for The Gods Are Not To Blame set, rehearsals, tech week and performance on 21 November 2026.To apply
