Here's What She Said To Me Screening Event digital graphic at Utopia Theatre

Utopia Theatre was delighted to bring our screening event to the Creative Hub, in honour of Black History Month 2025– 5 years after the play was originally staged at Sheffield Theatres.

Here’s What She Said To Me, written by Oladipo Agboluaje, is the heartfelt story of three generations of proud African women: Agbeke, Omotola and Aramide. They connect with one another across time, space, and two continents. They share their struggles, joys, tragedies, and broken dreams, in order to find healing in the present.

The play combines compelling drama with music, poetry and movement to illustrate this story of mothers and daughters in the world of migration and shifting identities, braving life with an undying hope, optimism and resilience.

"Beautifully directed by
Mojisola Kareem, music and movement become metabolised
within the story…"

Q&A Session

Following the screening, we were joined by Director of the show and Artistic Director of Utopia Theatre, Mojisola Kareem. Alongside our fantastic host, Xanthe Palmer and a team of incredible panelists from the Creative and Cultural Industries in Sheffield:

Our panel opened up conversations around the themes of Black identities and the impact of generational trauma, alongside motherhood and resilience. We welcomed questions from our audience of community members that offered fruitful insights into their own lived experiences, and reflected on the biographical nature of the play.
