About the Role
We are looking for a creative, proactive and visually confident Social Media & Content Creator to help tell the story of our work and bring our activity to life across our digital platforms.
This is a hands-on content creation role. We are looking for someone who can see a story, develop an idea and turn it into engaging content – not simply someone who can schedule and publish posts.
The role is Sheffield-based and requires regular in-person attendance. You will need to attend rehearsals, performances, workshops, community activities and events to capture content and engage with the people and stories behind our work. Some flexibility may be possible around working arrangements, but regular in-person attendance is an essential part of the role.
Working across our productions, rehearsals, workshops, artist development, community programmes, Creative Hub and events, you will create content that captures the people, energy and stories behind Utopia Theatre.
You will
- Come up with fresh content ideas that showcase Utopia Theatre’s productions, artists, projects and people.
- Attend rehearsals, performances, workshops, community activities and events to capture what is happening and turn it into engaging content.
- Film and photograph behind-the-scenes moments, artist interviews, rehearsals, performances and audience experiences.
- Create and edit engaging Reels, TikToks, Stories, short videos and photography for social media.
- Know what works on different platforms and adapt content for Instagram, TikTok, Twitter/X, Facebook and LinkedIn, rather than posting the same thing everywhere.
- Plan content around our programme and maintain a clear and consistent content calendar.
- Write captions that feel natural, engaging and true to Utopia Theatre’s voice.
- Look beyond the obvious and find the stories, people, ideas and moments within our work that audiences will want to see and hear about.
- Bring Utopia Theatre’s work to life online in a way that is visually interesting, authentic and accessible to our audiences.
- Keep up with social media trends and identify which ones could work creatively for Utopia Theatre.
- Review how our content performs, use analytics and audience engagement to understand what works, and apply this to future content.
- Take ownership of the role, manage your workload and actively bring ideas to the team rather than waiting to be told what to post.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience creating social media content that people want to watch, share and engage with.
- Can confidently film, photograph and edit content, particularly short-form video.
- Has a strong visual eye and can tell a story through images, video and words.
- Can come up with ideas independently and turn them into finished content.
- Understands what makes content work on Instagram, TikTok, Twitter/X, Facebook and LinkedIn, and knows that each platform needs a different approach.
- Can write clear, engaging captions and copy that sound natural rather than overly corporate.
- Is curious and observant, with the ability to spot interesting moments, people and stories.
- Is organised and reliable, but also flexible enough to respond to opportunities as they happen.
- Is comfortable working independently, taking responsibility and bringing ideas to the team.
- Has a genuine interest in theatre, arts, culture and storytelling.
Experience working in theatre, the arts or the cultural sector would be an advantage.
Portfolio
We want to see what you can create.
A portfolio or examples of previous work are essential. Please include links to content you have created, particularly Reels, TikToks, short-form videos, photography, behind-the-scenes content or social media campaigns.
We are interested in seeing your creative approach, visual style and storytelling ability, so please show us work that best represents you.
Ready to tell our story?
Please send:
- Your CV
- A short covering statement explaining why you are interested in the role and what you would bring to Utopia Theatre
- A portfolio or links to examples of your work
