The Utopia Baobab Project
Build the creative future of African Theatre
Through the Utopia Baobab project, we are bringing together our community to support the future of African Theatre in the UK.
Storytelling is at the heart of any theatre production, film, tv documentary, radio show and even video games. We want to address the lack of African voices in the culture and media space. With the money gathered through our fundraiser, we will give a group of gifted African playwrights a life-altering, and career-changing experience, giving them a chance to shine and break into the creative industry. An experienced team will support the development of three new plays for staging at a professional venue and publicise them further by publishing a book!
Next week, we are also hosting the Baobab Creative Hub in an effort to raise funds towards this fundraiser, Incredible creatives and workshop leaders have donated their time, including theatre, film director, DJ, composer, broadcaster and journalist Matthew Xia, playwright, producer, director, critic and commentator, Patricia Cumper MBE, award-winning writer Oladipo Agboluaje, writer, director, actress, Anni Domingo, and spoken poet Uncle Errol.
